A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s lens that can impact vision a little or a lot, depending on its severity. Believed to be just a normal effect of aging, cataracts mostly affect older adults, though a family history or congenital condition may put younger people at risk as well. Your lifestyle often changes drastically if you develop cataracts: you may not be able to read books or watch TV, your driving ability may be impaired to the point that it isn’t safe anymore and you may deal with irritating double vision or light sensitivity. It’s not surprising, then, that many people with cataracts opt for refractive cataract surgery.

About Refractive Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery has been around for quite a while, and some things haven’t changed-like the fact that there’s no way to remove a cataract from the lens without removing the lens itself. So during any surgery for cataracts, the patient’s natural lens will be replaced with a new, clear lens. Refractive cataract surgery, however, is relatively new, and its goal is a bit more aggressive: to eliminate the cataract while also improving patients’ overall vision. The end result is that many people who need glasses and contacts before surgery may be able to toss them afterward, thanks to the new generation of intraocular lenses (IOLs).

Choosing IOLs

There are several versions of IOL available for patients today:

    * Crystalens is unique because it attaches directly to the ciliary muscles, allowing the eye muscles to move the lens. These IOLs move naturally with your eyes to give you a clear picture of objects at all distances.
* ReSTOR lenses contain zones in concentric circles that allow the eyes to see images clearly both up close and far away.
* Tecnis, like ReSTOR, has concentric rings for multiple-distance viewing. It is also foldable, allowing the surgeon to insert it through a small incision.

Your surgeon will go over the pros and cons of each IOL and help you decide which is right for your anatomy and lifestyle.

Additional Benefits of Surgery

Removing the cloudiness associated with cataracts is, of course, the primary aim of surgery. But with today’s IOLs, refractive cataract surgery can also help with nearsightedness and farsightedness, as well as these conditions:

    * Presbyopia. This is a condition, affecting everyone beginning in middle age, makes it tougher to focus on objects up close. All of the lenses above offer presbyopia treatment.
* Astigmatism. This condition is the main reason people used to need glasses or contacts after surgery. Lenses known as toric IOLs are now available to treat astigmatism during surgery.

During your free LASIK screening our cataract screening, the Houston LASIK doctor all answer any questions you have and cover all risks and benefits in detail. If you have been living with imperfect vision and have been dependent on glasses or contacts for years, LASIK can be each truly remarkable and life changing procedure. Their office not only provides Laser eye surgery but also Lasik eye surgery Houston.

Wouldn’t it be nice if losing weight on a diet were as easy as gaining it was? It would be nice if it were just as fun, too. If you have lost the battle of the bulge, you might just be missing a few important things that could make the difference on your journey to successful weight loss.

1. Become active. You may be tired of hearing it, but you have to get some exercise every day that you can. You don’t have to strain yourself; you just have to get moving. Do simple things like go for a walk, take the stairs instead of the elevator, park farther from the entrance, and ride a bike.

2. Eat several small meals per day. Rather than starve yourself, eat more often. You don’t want to gorge all day, but you do want to graze. Taking food all day keeps your metabolism revved up. A speedy metabolism burns more calories even when you are sedentary.

3. Clean the cupboards of forbidden foods. Sorry, but it’s time for the chocolate doodle ditties to go. You know what’s bad for you, so throw it out. You don’t need sugar or other refined food, and you certainly don’t need junk food. Successful weight loss means out with the old and in with the new.

4. Drink lots of water. You should drink water all day long. When you are done, drink more water. Drink it as if the water company is shutting off the supply tomorrow. Quite often, people confuse hunger with thirst. When you drink a lot of fluid, it gives the tummy something to do between meals. Always drink water before a meal, too. A big glassful will help you to feel full faster. In addition, it will stop you from retaining water.

5. Stop dieting. The best part comes last; this is your payoff. Really – stop dieting. Maybe you didn’t get the memo, but low calorie diets don’t work. They might for a short time, but your body will figure out what you are doing and balk. Your metabolism will slow down and you will have a harder time with losing weight than you did before. And you will have a harder time in the future because of your messed up metabolism. That’s why dieters seem to gain back more than they lose.

NYC’s first and only outdoor counseling practice. Therapy is conducted outdoors in local parks and quiet side streets of Manhattan, dynamic and unique.

Clay Cockrell, a New York City licensed social worker, has taken his therapy off the couch and into the great outdoors. There’s an added bonus in walk and talk therapy — the exercise.

Antidepressants are taking away business from talk therapy, according to some experts. A recent study found that less than 15 percent of patients had the suggested amount of follow–up care after starting medication. So therapists have to find new ways to keep people interested in talk therapy. Cockrell thinks combining talk therapy with physical exercise might increase the number of people considering talk therapy.

Choosing the best hospital is the first step you can get when you want to get the best health treatment. Since it is widely believed that a good hospital will give you the best service in order to ensure the best satisfaction and comfort for the patient. Some of the ways in which you can look for a hospital nearest to you would be by using the yellow pages. For example if you are looking for a hospital in the great Chicago area then all you would do is look for the yellow pages or a directory and check for the hospitals that are provided in your area.

There is however other ways for finding a hospital in your area and some of the ways provide more area coverage than looking through a directory. For example if you decide to use the internet as a way to find Chicago area hospitals, this will provide you with more information of your surrounding area and take you even closer to hospitals in your area because most hospitals are now online and you will probably find the hospitals website which also provides detailed directions on how to get to the hospital itself.

Area maps work as well and this way you get to see all the Chicago area hospitals and where they are located but make sure it is an updated hospital you don’t want to end up going to the wrong place or find that the hospital was shut down. Finding the right hospital is important because you must look for the services that they provide that is suitable for you and how it can help you.

Several Chicago area hospitals provide all kinds of care and cover all major illness such and what ever maybe ailing you, you probably find a hospital near you that has all the services that you will need. However it is better to check through the internet if the hospital covers your kind of treatment before you decide to go there, especially when it concerns cancer or any other kind of illness that may require specialist.

The Chicago area hospitals offer quality services and strive to make your stay with them as comfortable as possible and with great staff that is on call twenty four hours a day, you will get the kind of services as well as medical care you require and this is why you should choose the right hospital for you and probably the one nearest to you so as you can also get home care if needed.

Adventist Midwest Health is a network of not-for-profit hospitals and outpatient-based health care facilities in Chicago’s western and southwestern suburbs, including a critical access hospital and skilled care nursing facility in central Wisconsin. They take a holistic, “whole-person” approach to wellness, providing medical and spiritual support for our patients and their families. They are committed to a balance of physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being. Their hospitals and sites are integral to the fabric of the communities they serve. They partner with local civic organizations and businesses to bring state-of-the-art treatments and preventive health care services close to where people live and work.

Rubbing alcohol contains two ingredients. One is isopropanol (also called isopropyl alcohol or propan-2-ol), which has C3H7OH as its chemical formula. The 70% is actually a better disinfectant.

Ethyl alcohol is also available as a rubbing alcohol, and is a smaller molecule than isopropanol.

Also note that rubbing alcohol that is bought over the counter, especially in the US, is adulterated with all sorts of other molecules, such as benzene and methanol. This is done to keep people from drinking them. (In the US, they are added so that they can be sold without a liquor license.)

Wheatgrass juice is potent raw, living food. The grass itself comes from the common wheat plant (species triticum aestivum) when it is young, vibrant and full of rich green chlorophyll. When the grass is squeezed, a dark green liquid is expressed and this is called wheatgrass juice.

Wheatgrass is harvested for juicing when the grass reaches its nutritional peak. This is just before the jointing stage, when the plant is between 7 and 11 inches tall. At this point, it has accumulated energy which will soon power a massive growth spurt. It is this energy that is captured in the juice. When wheatgrass is juiced, it is volatile and will oxidize quickly. It is important to either rapidly consume it or immediately protect the juice from oxidation. DynamicGreens packages and flash freezes the juice in seconds which maintains the life force without compromise.

Grasses are the foundational food for most land based life. Wheatgrass was identified as the finest grass food of all after a series of intensive agricultural research studies spearheaded by Dr. Charles Schnabel and assisted by Dr. George Kohler, Dr. Richard Graham, Conrad A. Elvehjem and E. B. Hart in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. Of particular note, they performed direct comparisons of wheatgrass against other well regarded vegetables including spinach, broccoli and alfalfa. While animals fed these foods exclusively began to waste away, those fed only wheatgrass thrived on it. This spawned further research which showed that wheatgrass contains a broad spectrum of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, essential fatty acids and enzymes. In addition, their research also identified benefits that could not be associated with any of these known nutrients. The expression “grass juice factor” was termed to descibe beneficial powers in grasses that were distinct.
